Rhythm and Ribs is more than just Jazz and BBQ!
We'll be hosting a variety of family-friendly activities
throughout Father's Day Weekend.
Jazz Links
After experiencing swingin’ success in its inaugural
season, Jazz Links, the educational component of the
Rhythm & Ribs Jazz Festival, is returning in a newly
expanded format, with a wide array of programming from
Thursday, June 12 through Saturday, June 14.
The three-day workshop will be led by renowned saxophonist
Bobby Watson, director of Jazz Studies at the University of
Missouri – Kansas City, and use activities-based learning to
inspire and educate Kansas City youth and adults about jazz
listening, the art and technique of jazz performance, and
Kansas City’s own rich jazz history and its role in the
development and evolution of the music.
Members from the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band, set to
perform on Saturday afternoon during the festival, are also
targeted to conduct master classes during Jazz Links.
The group, which is led by drummer and associate of legendary
saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, Louis Hayes, also includes
saxophonist Vincent Herring, trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, bassist
Santi Debriano and pianist Rick Germanson.
